The Association for Humanitarian Development (AHD) initiates the program of empowering women socially and economically through the Women Skill Development Centre (WSDC) in collaboration with Global Giving in the Districts of Tando Muhammad Khan, Jamshoro, Hyderabad, and Mirpurkhas, Sindh, Pakistan, which selects those girls who drop out of school and take an interest in learning more skills to earn income.
This center is providing skills in tailoring and embroidery to generate their own sources of income for the betterment of their living standards. All the activity in this center is monitored frequently by the AHD Supervisor and Program Manager for the smooth running of the centers.
In this regard, trainings were conducted in rural areas, and sewing machines were distributed to more than 200 women during 2010–2012. Afterwards, in 2018–2022, AHD started sewing centers in Tando Muhammad Khan and Mirpur Khas with the help of Global Giving, and so far, 20 sewing centers have completed their course of sewing skills, resulting in 550 girls in direct beneficiaries and 1000 girls in indirect beneficiaries having been trained through sewing skill courses and distributed the sewing machines among them. Many of them have started to earn for themselves, established their own tailor shop in their homes, and also started to train other young girls in their villages about sewing skills.
