Prime objective:

AHD vision, promote safe & clean drinking water for 50,000 families, living in rural areas of Pakistan from 2012-2015 

Core Issues & Problems

1.       Majority of people living in rural areas drinking unsafe & contaminated  drinking water

2.       Lack of availability of water sources

3.       Consecutive water shortage, droughts & disasters

4.       Low capacity for storage of water for drinking as well as personnel use  

5.       Lack of awareness regarding safe & clean drinking water

6.       Floods 201, 2011 & 2012 demolished available water sources / damaged

Program Objective:

1.       Awareness promotion & capacity building of rural communities to have access to safe and clean drinking water through meeting, workshops and trainings

2.       Promotion of safe drinking water in 6,000 families till Dec 31, 2012

3.       Provision of water facilities Nadi filter to 6,000 families

4.       To provide sustainable sources for storage

5.        Water quality testing of different sources and sharing with NGOs, CBOs and communities  

Program Activities: 

1.       To conduct baseline survey and identity needs at household level

2.       To organize TOT trainings, meetings, workshops and trainings for awareness promotion on safe drinking water solutions

3.       To conduct different water quality tests in available sources (Nadi filters, hand pump, canal water,  wells, ponds, communal water tanks

4.       Distribution & installation of safe drinking water units

5.       Installation of wells, hand pumps and ponds at village level

6.        Nadi filters, communal tanks and storage facilities in different village of targeted districts

7.        Printing of awareness material for promotion of useful safe drinking water solutions

  The overall objective of this document is to outline a timely AHD disaster response - providing a mechanism for effectively reducing the expected losses due to torrential rains or floods in the targeted districts where AHD focuses with its resources. This contingency plan has been developed to prepare AHD for a more effective response to the humanitarian needs of people affected, taking into account lessons learned and needs identified from the monsoon flood response of 2010 and 2011.
